Annona mucosa

The size of the plant and of its bag can vary a little from the photograph — each one grows at its own pace. We keep them as consistent as we can.
Overview
Biriba is one of the most delicious and least known fruits of the custard apple family: its white, juicy, creamy pulp melts in the mouth with a flavor that recalls lemon meringue pie. The ripe fruit is yellow and covered in soft bumps. It's a fast-growing tree that starts fruiting within a few years.

Edible Uses
Eat it fresh with a spoon when the skin turns yellow and gives to the touch. It also goes into ice cream, smoothies, pies and fermented drinks. The seeds are not eaten.
Medicinal
Traditionally the leaves are used for rheumatism, and the powdered seeds, externally only, against head lice.

Agroforestry
A fast, productive secondary species of the medium stratum. It's pollinated by beetles, which are more abundant in diverse systems with good leaf litter. In the wild it's threatened by deforestation, so planting it also helps conserve it.
