Selenicereus megalanthus

The size of the plant and of its bag can vary a little from the photograph — each one grows at its own pace. We keep them as consistent as we can.
Overview
Yellow pitahaya is considered the sweetest of the dragon fruits: a spiny golden skin and juicy white flesh with black seeds. It's a climbing cactus that blooms at night. Its large flowers open at dusk and grow more fragrant as the night goes on.

- Cultivation Status
- Cultivated, Wild
A climbing cactus, sometimes epiphytic: it needs a stake, a post or a tree to lean on. It wants very well-drained, slightly acidic soil (pH 6 or below) and won't tolerate waterlogging. It handles a lot of heat. It starts bearing at around 3–5 years. Spacing: 3–5 m.
Edible Uses
Eat it fresh: cut it open and scoop out the flesh with a spoon. The fruit's spines drop off on their own as it ripens. Excellent in smoothies and fruit salads.
Medicinal
No documented medicinal uses, though it's known for a mild laxative effect.
Traditional uses for information only. Not a substitute for advice from a health professional.
Agroforestry
A secondary species of the medium stratum that uses vertical space: it grows on living stakes, posts or support trees without taking much ground. In a diverse system it fills a niche other fruits don't use.
